SE 2002 Track Day
Sunday, May 26, 2002

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do I have to have track experience to participate in the track day?

A. Absolutely not. Matter of fact, the people who tend to have the most fun when attending track days are those who have never been on a track in their life.

Q. How much will it cost?

A. The track day itself will cost $85 per car (if you register before 5/21), with two drivers permitted per car (but you must split the on-track time unless you pay for two spots). If you register between 5/22 and 5/25, the cost is $105 and on the day of the event, $115. Things to consider in addition to this cost are tires, brakes, helmet and other consumable items. Many people have a set of dedicated track tires, which can be completely used over the course of a hard day at the track. Track time is not cheap, but it's a blast.

Q. Where is the track?

A. Just outside Talladega, AL. Details can be found at http://tgprace.com

Q. I don't have a helmet and can't afford to buy one AND pay for the track. Should I not even bother?

A. We are working on procuring loaner helmets, but even if we don't get them you should be able to borrow a helmet from one of the other drivers present at the event. It is best to bring your own helmet, though, as it will ensure that you don't miss track time while you wait for a loaner and it will serve you for many years.

Q. Do I need a roll bar or roll cage in my car?

A. Unless you own a convertible, you do not need any type of rollover protection except for the roof structure of your car.

Q. Do I need race tires?

A. No. You need tires with no visible cord. Should cord be found on your tires, you will not be able to run the event. If you cord a tire during the event, you will not be able to continue running until that tire is replaced.
